Reading wins inter-university ploughing match

Reading University were the triumphant winners of the 2012 Inter-University Ploughing Trophy, beating Harper Adams and Newcastle University to the annual title.
The ploughing match, which has been running since 1952, took place at Harper Adams University College on 18 February.
It is four years since Reading University last won the trophy, but their team, led by ploughing captain Josh Mitchell claimed glory after working their plot with a Fendt 820 and five furrow plough.
“It was a thoroughly well organised event, enjoyed by all and winning certainly made the trip worthwhile,” said Josh.
As the winners, the Reading Agrics will be hosting the competition next year.
“Reading, following tradition, will be hosting the event next year, and look forward to seeing agrics from all walks of life there to continue the strong relationship between the universities,” said club chairman Charles Clack.
