Ringside: Large lamb entry at Kendal

Kendal Auction Mart, Cumbria Tuesday (27 July) produced the largest show of lambs this year, with 1906 head going under the hammer.

Standard weight lambs were in highest demand, selling to 200p/kg for a pen of Texel crosses from P J Onions. Top price per head of £80 went to another pen of Texel crosses, from J Scott & Co.

“All lambs fetched a wonderful trade, producing a very pleasing market average of 166p/kg,” said market fieldsman Richard Gardiner.

The 416 cast sheep sold to a ringside full of buyers, with all types in demand. Larger sheep regularly topped £80 a head, selling to a peak of £103 for a pen of Texel ewes from R Morphet.
