Although the GB Euro Deadweight Adjusted Pig Price (DAPP) put on 0.52p last week to stand at 152.86p, spot and contract prices showed an easier trend with Vion and Woodhead Bros dropping their weekly prices by 1p, whereas Tulip and Cranswick stood on.
Spot prices eased by around 2p on the week and remain affected by much cheaper imported pigmeat hitting UK wholesale markets.
Most spot bacon was traded at between 150-155p with lighter weights 4-6p above this.
Extra competition in the sow market has certainly helped to maintain sow prices and with the euro also holding its value closing the week at 89.3p, sow sellers were generally able to receive bids of between 100-104p, according to load size and specification.
Recent falls in cereal prices have done little to stimulate demand for weaners with the Agricultural and Horticulture Development Board 30kg ex-farm average price almost unchanged at £46.02/head and still well below cost of production.
