Tesco names NFU man as agriculture director

Tesco has appointed Tom Hind, the NFU’s director of corporate affairs, as its new agriculture director.

Mr Hind, who has more than 15 years’ experience working at the NFU, will join Tesco later this year.

In his new role, he will develop the supermarket’s relationship with farmers and producers across the UK and around the world.

The appointment follows a commitment by Tesco chief executive Philip Clarke at the NFU annual conference in February to build stronger relationships with farmers and help build a more transparent supply chain.

Kevin Grace, commercial director at Tesco, said: “Tom is a respected figure in British agriculture and will bring with him a huge amount of hands-on farming experience.

“His relationship with farmers will ensure their views continue to be heard throughout Tesco.”

Mr Hind said he was sorry to leave the NFU, but was looking forward to “fresh challenges” at Tesco.
