YFC 2010: NFYFC president Lionel Hill re-elected

The celebrated Lionel Hill has been re-elected as the president of the National Federation of Young Farmers Clubs for the last time.

Mr Hill, who embarks on his fifth year as the NFYFC’s president, told members at Sunday’s (April 25) agm he would not be seeking re-election again.

The married dad-of-two, who was applauded for his relationship with grass roots members, explained he felt it was time for the job to be passed on.

Mr Hill, who was awarded an MBE for services to the Young Farmers’ Club organisation in 2002, said it was an “immense honour” to stand as the group’s president.

Caroline Dawson, NFYFC member of the year 2009, wrote a poem in support of Mr Hill’s re-election – celebrating his friendship with club members, and his large following on the internet social networking site Facebook.

“Unlike other pensioners my circle of friends is always growing,” Mr Hill told the agm.

He added: “It’s the young members that give me such a positive outlook on the 21st century.”

The agm also elected Nan Warlow as an honorary life member of the federation in recognition of her years of hard work with Pembrokeshire Federation.

The 81-year-old had been a founding member and first club secretary of Llysyfran YFC in 1952 and is still a club leader today.
