Enter the Contractor of the Year Award 2014

Farm contracting is a competitive business so anything that makes you stand out from the crowd has to be a good thing.
That’s where the Farmers Weekly Contractor of the Year award comes in. Just being shortlisted gives your business a great publicity boost and winning the award puts you in an elite club of top contractors.
Entry is open to all businesses and previous winners have been from both large and small enterprises.
Last year’s victor was Yorkshire potato contractor Philip Clappison. He plants and harvests more than 1,200ha of potatoes every year for some of the biggest packers and processors in the game.

The judges singled him out for his relentless drive to get the job done, his ability to say no if a job doesn’t stack up and his sensible approach to buying and running machinery.
By purchasing second-hand machinery he’d been able to build up a huge fleet, meaning he could get the job done quickly when the going got tough. His workshop skills and fastidious approach to maintenance meant it kept going, too.
In 2012 Warwickshire contracting twins Jack and Bay Watson took the title. They were aged just 24 at the time and had only been trading for six years. But they had a great business plan, kept on top of all their figures and had a core group of loyal customers.
If you think you’ve got what it takes to win you can enter by visiting awards.fwi.co.uk and filling in the form.
