Cereals 2014: JCB debuts Fastrac 4000-series

It all went pretty quiet in the JCB camp after the 4000-series’ Agritechnica fanfare last year, but the latest Fastrac was finally ready to make its UK debut at Cereals ahead of full production scheduled to start in September.

The newbie has nudged out the 2000-series and is propelled by Finnish-built power in the shape of Sisu’s 6.6-litre block. It is tuned to pump out anything from 160-220hp and torque is up to 1,000Nm.

The JCB boffins have been busy with transmission changes, too. The old semi-powershift has been binned in favour of Fendt’s two-range CVT, which has a top speed of 60kph.

A narrower chassis has made the turning circle tighter, and four-wheel steer can be picked from the options list for ultimate manoeuvrability. Visibility has been improved, too, with a new cab and the colour monitor taken from the 8000-series.
