Photo of the Week: Combine kicks up dust in record harvest

This week’s photo shows a dusty wheat harvest being completed in record time, combining against an intense sky.

Farmer Chris Roberts took the photo and said: “I took the photo on my phone as I noticed the dramatic contrast between the dry dusty wheat coming out of the combine and the dark thundery clouds behind.”

The farm, Foxhall Farm in Owestry, Shropshire, is a mixed farm rearing Waygu beef from milk calf up to fat.

They are fed on a mainly home-grown forage/starch diet consisting of grass/maize/wheat/barley and lucerne, with some added protein.

Of the harvest, Chris says: “We’ve harvested all our wheat and barley this year in record time and with very pleasing yields, despite the year.

“The wheat has sampled very well for Hagberg and protein levels. We’ve had a good straw harvest too.”
