Photo of the Week: Damp soil eases Georgina potato lifting
This week’s photo, of early morning potato lifting on family farm RC Browne & Son, was sent in by 19-year-old Adam Hunt.

The 2,000ha fifth-generation arable farm and contracting outfit, RC Browne & Son, in Bury St Edmunds, grows primarily root crops but also a range of cereals.
These maincrop Georgina potatoes are headed for UK supermarkets.
Harvest so far this year has proved challenging for the farm due to extreme heat and drought. The stress on the plants meant an increased risk of bruising, so handling the crop with care has been crucial.
Adam says, “The recent rainfall has been very beneficial in this regard, with damp soils allowing for much better lifting, both ensuring the potatoes aren’t bruised but also allowing for a cleaner sample.”
