Photo of the Week: Spring lambs for a spring bank holiday

This week’s photo of the week seems to embody what a spring bank holiday is all about – sunshine and new life.

The photo was taken by Mary Brough of her Swaledale shearling and lambs by a Leicester cross Texel against a magnificent Lake District backdrop.

Mary has fell stock which run on the northern fells of the Lake district. She has lambed 350 (mostly) Swaledales, but also has a flock of Welsh Badgerface. She also runs 150 geld hoggs.

Mary is a self-described older shepherd – which we wholeheartedly applaud – and has consequently reduced her flock numbers and stopped breeding mule lambs.

To replace breeding mules, she is running some dairy replacements for her son.
