Pink livestock products boost breast cancer fundraising

Two new pink-branded livestock products have been launched by Rumenco and Nettex to raise funds for the Pink Ribbon Foundation.

The launch coincides with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which runs throughout October, and expands the companies’ existing fundraising campaign.

Rumenco is adding a pink Lifeline Lamb and Ewe block to its existing pink Lifeline buckets, while Nettex, part of the Rumenco group, has introduced a pink Promark livestock marking spray.

The Pink Ribbon Foundation provides grants to UK charities supporting people affected by breast cancer, as well as work around early detection, treatment and understanding of the disease.

Nigel Lyon, Rumenco managing director, said: “In the last year we have raised in excess of £18,000 for the Pink Ribbon Foundation, which is a great achievement and contribution, but we felt there were more ways we could help.”

He said the additional products would allow the companies to build on that fundraising, adding: “We are hopeful that, with farmer support, we can significantly increase the total next year.”

Farmers are also being encouraged to share photographs of their ewes and lambs using the pink spray and blocks on social media during Breast Cancer Awareness Month to help raise awareness of the campaign.

More than 55,000 people are diagnosed with breast cancer in the UK each year.

While most are women, about 400 men are diagnosed annually.
