The Royal Highland Show has set a new record after its opening day attracted the highest-ever number of visitors.

Billed by organisers as “the greatest show on earth”, the event’s first day saw a record 41,269 people pass through the gates.

In total, the event attracted 182,984 people over the course of its four-day run, down just 4,660 on last year’s record crowd.
