16,000gns for Welsh Mountain ram

Welsh Mountain rams saw a storming trade at the Meirionnydd Flockmasters annual sale at Dolgellau Market where prices topped 16,000gns.


Leading trade was a yearling ram shown by D S W Jones, Ysguboriau, Tywyn realising 16,000 gns and bought by T Roberts, Bryn Cynhadledd, Conwy.


Although that was the only ram reaching a five figure sum, there were several lots selling with four figures including G P Rees and Son, Cae Ceinach, Pennal who sold a yearling for 6,500 gns to S Jones, Ysguboriau.  A pen of seven from Cae Ceinach returned an average of 2,610 gns.


M L Jones, Darngae, Cwm Prysor were also in the money selling a yearling for 6,000 gns to E R Williams, Hendre, Cwm Prysor. A pen of eight yearling Welsh Mountain rams from Ysguboriau returned an average of 4,120 gns.


T W Williams and Co, Caerynwch, Dolgellau also sold a yearling for a four figure sum at 5,400gns to Mrs B F Evans, Glanrafon, Talybont and another for 5,000 gns to H W Nutting, Cwm Rhwyddfor, Talyllyn.

A pen of seven from Caerynwch returned an average of 2,970 gns.


R J Roberts and Son, Dysefin sold a yearling for 4,000 gns to Mr Williams, Tai’r Meibion, Bangor.


Averages 280 rams, 865 gns.
