£3,200 bid breaks Beeston record for commercial dairy trade

The record for a milking dairy animal at the commercially marketed Mid Month Sale at Beeston Castle Auction was broken on Tuesday when brothers Jack and Barclay Taylor of Myddle, Shrewsbury sold a pedigree calved heifer for £3,200.

Breaking the previous record by some £300. Their top seller, Monckhaven Twister Dina is a daughter of Cogent Twister and out of a twice 12,000 kg. VG87 dam and sold to Dave Green of Lach Dennis, Northwich.

This was the highlight of another great day for the Taylor‘s who sold eight fresh Holstein heifers to average £2,585. They also sold the Windy Knoll View 4 Aces daughter, Ashdon White Lilac 54th for £2,950 to Joylan Farms of St, Michaels Preston and their homebred Burnbrae Goldmine Amanda Red 2nd by their stock bull Aintree Goldmine Red for £2,850 to D & HE Colclough & Son of Hassall, Sandbach.  They also received £2,650 for a Burnbrae Vincent daughter selling to S G Lee & Son of Wolverhampton and £2500 for a Burlane Tennyson daughter selling to David Guy of Middlewich.

Overall the sale provided a great result for all those selling with some 420 head actually sold in the two rings over the day.

Auctioneers Wright Manley said:  “It is quite strange how sales can vary so much from month to month. At this sale there were far more not forward than is usually the case at the Mid Month and it also has to be said that quality was nowhere near as good as it was last month.”

“However trade for the very best cows and heifers was equally as good, if not better, but there were certainly more middle and lower arrange animals forward in the milkers and they did not reach the dizzy heights achieved last month.”

Again buyers came from all over with loads going to Cornwall, Scotland, West Wales, Mid Wales, Lancashire and a big number from Cheshire and its surrounding counties.

Nevertheless there were still sixty animals that made £2,000 or more including twenty two over £2,400. Other heifers hitting the highlights were Emmington Alliance Snowdrop 2nd a daughter of ME Dale Alliance from RJ Rose & Son Ltd., Oxford selling for £2900 to Joylan Farms. The Moet Melody daughter, Holbeck Melody Kate consigned by D B Kippax & Sons, Preston went for £2600 to David Guy.

The top price cow at £2,750 for a non pedigree third calver from Hardwick Farms, Ellesmere selling to Joylan Farms and another third calf home bred cow by Lucky Mike from Jack and Barclay Taylor selling for £2,500 to Ben Elkin of Stone.

There was a wide selection of coloured breeds and these were led by a registered Blue Roan Shorthorn calved heifer from Rob Kite of Milwich, Stone selling for £2,400 to Messrs. Lee, Wolverhampton and a red shorthorn heifer from the same home selling for £2,200 to A Plumley & Co, Calveley, Tarporley.

Swedish Red crosses sold up to £2,080 for an entry from Maurice Grimes, Cholmondely and another similarly bred heifer from J & S Richardson, Ellesmere selling for £2,000. Montbeliarde crosses sold up to £1,850 for a fourth calf cow from G E Oakley of Whitchurch. Ayrshires sold to £1,680 twice for fresh heifers from Alan Coutts & Sons of Knutsford and Richard Thompson, Ashford, Kent and Jerseys sold to £1,200 for a fresh pedigree heifer from James Charlesworth, Crewe.

In?calf and Maiden Heifers were a great trade throughout for all classes and age groups. In?calf heifers were lead by a couple of Deehaven bred heifers by Spiorte and Talent consigned by David Ishmael of Orrell, Wigan selling at £2,050 and £2,000 respectively. Late summer calvers sold for £1,500 for a daughter of Reece from J R Edge, Middlewich who also sold the six top priced bulling heifers at £1,280 and £1,250 (five times).

Unregistered bulling heifers sold to £1180 for an entry from Regate Farm, Guyhirn, Cambridgeshire and Unregistered stirk heifers from the same home sold up to £900.

Heifer calves this month were of good quality and a great trade and were topped at £580 twice for a pair of heifers by Askew Reece consigned by Weavian Farms of Nantwich.
