5500gns top for Blondes at Carlisle
British Blonde breeders enjoyed a consistent trade at Carlisle last week with just two bulls and four heifers going unsold from a catalogues entry of 36 head.
Leading the way at 5500gns was Hallfield Cavalier, a May 2007-born son of Doncombe Ayers Rock forward from Messrs Weightman, Peterlee, Co Durham. Having stood junior and overall male champion in the pre-sale show, Cavalier is out of Hallfield Stella and sold to P and J Johnson, Terrington, York.
Next best among the bulls was a 4500gns sale for Criffel Classic, the reserve junior champion from Ewan Burgess, Dumfries. This one is by Whitefield Leader and out of Millend Unity’s. Going back to French sire Arlequin, Leader was snapped up by C I Thomas, Montgomery, Powys.
Third top at 4100gns was another from theb Weightmans, Hallfield Carlos. Also by Ayers Rock, Carlos is out of Hallfield Vivacious and sold with a beef value of +12 to Messrs Mitchell, Barnard Castle, Co Durham.
At 4000gns was David Knight’s best from his Doncombe herd, Doncombe Chernabog. With a beef value of +21, Chernabog is by the good breeding sire Druk Thor and out of Doncombe Orvieto, a Druk Lance daughter. He sold to Edwards Partners, Presteigne, Powys.
Two then sold at 3900gns, the first of which was J and M Gibb’s Broomley Chad a Millend Voodoo son out of Broomley Visage. Buying this one were Rawding Partners, Tring, Herts.
Also at this money was the reserve male champion Hillhead Champion from Hillhead Blondes, Co Down, Northern Ireland. Champion is by Palace and out of Hillhead Octopussey and sold with a beef value of +12.
Among the heifers the top call was a 3500gns bid for A J and C D Scott’s Hilltop Dolly. By Shapfell Bongo and out of Garngour Paula, Dolly sold to N T Barrett, Everington, York.
Next best female price was 2500gns for the reserve female champion, Cosdon Dakota from Pete Holman and Pam Williams. By Hillhead Umar and out of Cosdon Shawnee, she was bought by M P Capstick, Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria.
