Aberdeen-Angus bulls sell privately

A brace of Aberdeen-Angus bulls have been sold from leading herds in private deals in the last week, with the first to go being Netherton Mr Rader J527 from the McLaren family’s Netherotn herd.Netherton-Mr-Rader-J527-033-low-res-350x233.jpgHe has been sold to Genus Breeding for an undisclosed price. This young bull is sired by the Australian bull Dylemma Radar W42, who was sold at the Angus National Expo for $40,000 and was also the Adelaide Royal Show reserve junior champion where his dam was also interbreed champion in 2002.

Rader’s dam is the breed record priced female Netherton Missie A114 who sold for ÂŁ31,000 in 2007. She is also the dam of Netherton Mr Brazilian E377, herd sire at Netherton and Balmachie; Netherton Mr Motovator K559 who is herd sire at Balgay and Netherton Mr American E370, herd sire for McCornick.

She also bred Balmachie Missie who was the 2008 National Champion. Missie’s A114 dam is a TC Stockman 365 daughter who sold for ÂŁ16,800 in 2004 and she herself is a daughter of the twice Canadian show female of the year DMM Miss Essence 22B.

Rader, like his sire, is an easy calving bull with his performance figures ranking in the top 20% for calving ease direct and gestation length and the top 15% for birth weight. He has a top 1% for EMA, RBY and Rib Fat and top 30 % for 400 day growth with a Terminal Index of 37 (top 5%) and a Self Replacing Index of 49 (top 5%).

Second to sell privately is Rawburn El Torro from the Elliott family’s Rawburn herd. This high indexed sire sold for an undisclosed five figure sum to Ranald Pottinger for the Isauld herd.

El Torro was the highest weight gaining bull in the 2008 calf crop and was used for two years in the Rawburn herd.Rawburn El Torro web.jpgHe is the highest Terminal Index (+59) and Self Replacing Index (+79) proven sire in the UK herd book and is the sire of the highest Terminal Index bull ever recorded in the UK to date, Rawburn Dublin who has a TI of +67 and a SRI of +81. His maternal brother Rawburn Edge sold to the Eastfield herd in 2010 for ÂŁ20, 000.

By the renowned high performance Rawburn Transformer, a sire who has more registered offspring than any other bull ever in the UK, he is out of Rawburn Ellen Erica D298, a daughter of the Rawburn owned Canadian embryo donor Cudlobe Ellen Erica 46D and maternal sister of the dam of Rawburn Emblem K127 that sold to Ballathie this year for ÂŁ30,000.

Speaking about the sale, Ranald Pottinger said; “We’re delighted to have been able to purchase El Torro. He’s an incredibly powerful bull with great size and width. He has tremendous shape and muscle for a bull that is so correct. Figures wise, he’s one of the top proven sires in the breed for both Terminal and Self Replacing index.

“His pedigree is also one that will no doubt compliment the breeding programme at Isauld. After seeing his fantastic offspring at Rawburn we were sure this bull would have a great impact in our herd.”

John Elliot Jnr added: “It was not without a great deal of consideration that we decided to release El Torro from the Rawburn herd. His impact at Rawburn over the past two years has been outstanding, but due to the concentration of his sire’s genetics within our herd, we are very limited to what we can breed him with. El Torro has the potential to become even better than his sire.”
