Aberdeen-Angus lead trade at Sedgemoor multi-breed sale

Last week’s autumn Multi Breed Show and Sale of pedigree native beef cattle at Sedgemoor attracted an entry of 225 which resulted in a near complete clearance, with just five females unsold and all the bulls finding new homes.  

Top was 1780gns for Aberdeen-Angus cow Muirhall Ladybird, from Paul and Lisa Frain, Cornwall. Ladybird, by Eisenhower and out of a Cruz dam had previously stood in first place as a yearling at the Royal Highland Show. She was sold with her Wedderlie Derric July born heifer calf at foot and headed to Wales.

The Frains also topped the bulls with the youngest bull of the day. At 13 months Allabury Eden was by Muirhall Last Deal and out of a Galcantray Preditor dam.

This young bull with tremendous length and height and of immense promise. He sold at 1682gns to Andrew Wear, Redhill, Bristol.

The Angus breed generally occupied the vanguard when Bosullow Blackbird H232, with smart Bosullow Timulus sired May born heifer calf at foot achieved 1680gns and Bosullow Erica H233, with Timulus sired April born heifer at foot sold well at 1320gns for J and F Feltham, Axbridge.

Bosullow Timulus himself, a February 2007 bull, Nightingale bred right through met a final call of 1380gns as Mr and Mrs Feltham completed their dispersal.

Herefords sold to 1320gns for a Downwood cow, from Messrs L R and A M Ayre, South Molton. Downwood 1 Dulcie with her bull calf at foot was sold in calf to Frenchstone Softie.

South Devons rose to 1310gns for Grove Hollyhock, a 2003 cow with July heifer calf at foot from K W Greenslade, Yeovil, who also sold Westways Columbine 2 at 1250gns.


Devons topped at 1220gns for Nowers Norah 21, with a Whitefield Enough Said heifer calf at foot from Messrs J A and S K C Lindley, Wellington. (Greenslade Taylor Hunt).
