All set for Otley Show 2009

Organisers of Britain‘s oldest annual one-day agricultural show have already started preparing for next year’s landmark 200th event.

The Bicentenary of Otley Show is scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 16, 2009 – as usual, the first major regional agricultural show of the season – and organisers Wharfedale Agricultural Society are pulling out all stops in a bid to make the milestone event the biggest and best ever.

The 2009 show, to be staged at the Bridge End show ground on the banks of the River Wharfe, will again feature all the traditional livestock and animal classes – cattle, sheep, horses, goats, poultry, rabbits and dogs, supported by classes showcasing the best of local produce, handicrafts, floral art, farriers and more.

About 1000 exhibitors regularly submit up to 4000 entries in the show classes and a record entry is anticipated for the Bicentenary. In addition, more than 100 trade stands and food outlets, plus up to 50 craft exhibitors, are expected to be in attendance.

Full details about the 2009 show, along with sponsorship opportunities for the 200th event, are available from secretary Janet Raw at 15 Bridge Street, Otley, 01943 462541 or 07961 966952. They will also be posted on the website at www.otleyshow.org.uk
