Angus sell to 5,000gns at Carlisle sale
Aberdeen-Angus cattle at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, last weekend saw prices top 5,000gns for the pre-sale reserve champion and a further four lots sell for 4,000gns.
Sale leader and reserve champion under judge Andrew Hodge of the Rulesmains herd was Gretnahouse Bailiff M560 from Alasdair Houston, Gretna Green, Dumfriesshire. This April 2012, ET-born Ardrossan Admiral A2 son is out of the G13 Steel daughter Netherton Beauty J533, herself a daughter of Big Sky beauty 009. With a TSI of +49, a SRI of +64, he found a new home with Hamish and Margaret Sclater, Dunlugas, Turriff, for their Deveron herd.
The first of the 4,000gns sales was the pre-sale champion Netherton Black Kodiak L643 from William McLaren and Family, Blackford, Perthshire. Another ET-bred animal, this one is a November 2011-born son of HF El Tigre 28U and is out of The Moss Mr Eshton D409 daughter Dunira Blackbird G442. He carries a TSI of +35 and a SRI of +44 and was knocked down to P R and J Crawfurd, Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire.
Next to trade at 4,000gns was Fell Lane Gandalf M249 from Michael Lishman, Baraasford, Hexham. Born April 2012, this Oakchurch Field Marshall K143 son is out of the Nightingale Kruncher D210 daughter Nightingale Grace F312 and sold to Newton Stewart based W M Hutchison.
Then the third bull to go at same money was another from Alasdair Houston, this time the Auldhouseburn Elijah G321 son Gretnahouse Sam M565. Born April 2012, he is out of the Maplejacks Foggarty B022 daughter Wall Samantha F495 who was purchased out of the Wall dispersal for 4200gns. Buyer of this one was Messrs Robson, Newcastle upon Tyne.
The final bull to be knocked down at 4,000gns was Weeton Lord Harry M356 from Loftus Farms, Weeton, Preston. This ET-bred, May 2012-born Rawburn Elysium F547 son is out of the 15,000gns Blelack Lady Heather J169, a daughter of noted sire Netherallan Peter Pershore E052. With a TSI of +45 and a SRI of +53, he sold to D and J Isherwood, Skipton, North Yorkshire.
Two bulls then traded at 2,500gns, the first of which was Foulness Magnum Prince M078 from Chris Page, Brough, East Yorkshire. Born January 2012, this one is by previous herd sire Carmains Jupiter Eric J018 and is out of the Rawburn Lord Ross C216 daughter Gramarye Magnolia Princess and has had a successful show career through the summer. He was sold to Featherwood Partners, Rothbury, Northumberland.
At the same money was Clackmannanshire-based Richard and Carol Rettie’s Retties Paymaster M173, a Fell Lane Ploughman J211 son out of the Blackhaugh Extra Premium F671 daughter Retties Panache J055. This one stood first at the Highland and was reserve male at Kinross. He sold to E T and J T Robinson, Driffield, East Yorkshire.
The one female that sold was Abington Lesley L963, a March 2011-born female from Abington Farms, Great Abington, Cambridgeshire. By Abington Closing Netgain H554, she is out of a Nightingale Poundman C183 daughter and sold having been PD’d to Abington Ramrod J963 for 900gns to C J Anderson, Carrutherstown, Dumfries.
