Baileys Suffolk draft tops at E7000gns

Prices reached 7000Eugns at last weekend’s production sale from the Baileys and Laurelbank Suffolk flocks held at Tattersalls, Dublin where the leading bid came for a shearling ewe carrying a single lamb to the 32,000gns ram Solwaybank Special One.

The twin-born ewe was part of Tom Bailey’s consignment. She is by Rhaeadr Rossi and out of a dam by Glenisla Sydney and was bought by Iain Barbour – who bred the service sire – for his Solwaybank flock at Annan, Dumfries

Jimmy Douglas is never far away from the action and paid 6500Eugns to claim some of his own breeding through another Bailey gimmer by Rossi. She is out of a ewe by Cairness Tremendous and was carrying a single lamb to the Whitestone Warrior son Cairness New Approach that was bought privately from Mr Douglas’ Cairness flock as a lamb in June.

Denbigh, north Wales breeder Myfr Evans gave 4000Eugns for another Rossi gimmer out of a Sydney ewe and carrying twins to New Approach while L Liggett, Co Tyrone took a gimmer by Rossi bred out of a Stockton Gold Nugget ewe that cost 7000gns from the Crosemanor flock. The gimmer was carrying a single lamb to Cairness Charles that cost 20,000gns in Edinburgh last year.

There were four bids of 2000Eugns for Baileys gimmers: Mr Prendergast, Co Carlow claimed a gimmer by Rossi; J D Brookes, Co Roscommon secured a gimmer by Cairness Save The Day; Derek Henderson, Allandale, Northumberland took a gimmer by Rossi and J Screene and Sons, Co Galway bought a gimmer by Langside Looks The Part.

Best for David Duncan’s Laurelbank flock were three bids of 1000Eugns. A two-shear ewe by Glenho Glayva carrying twins to Laurelbank Home Alone went to P Savage, Co Down; Tom Bailey gave 1000Eugns for a Rossi gimmer scanned for twins to Beaufort Bullion while P McGonagal took a gimmer by Bailey Bar One and in-lamb to Home Alone.
