Bakewell cattle champion sells for 460p/kg

Bakewell’s annual Christmas Primestock Show and Sale saw the champion beast make or £2,428.80 (460p/kg) and an overall average of 259.4p/kg for the show cattle.

 

The annual event followed the usual format with a show of Prime Cattle on Sunday with the cattle being housed overnight and sold within the regular Market on Monday.

 

Judge Sam Howarth of Hartshead Meats, Ashton Under Lyne, Lancashire, picked a 528kg black Limousin heifer from A Dickinson and L Powdrill, Heage, for his overall champion.  She sold on Monday to local livestock agent, David Wright.  Reserve Champion and best opposite sex was from the same home as the champion and sold for 280p/kg to Richard Hobday, of White Peak Farm Butchers, Tissington.

 

Best exhibitor bred animal was a superb Limousin heifer from Nigel and Julie Birch, Monyash. She weighed in at 628kg and sold for 320p/kg to Nigel Brown Butchers, Ashbourne. (Bagshaws)
