Ballymena Limousins break records

Limousin breeders celebrated a new centre all breeds record at Ballymena on Monday when cow Teeshan Vanoush sold for a new record of 8800gns.

Forward from Trevor Robinson, Cullyhanna, Vanoush is a five year old Ronick Hawk daughter and out of homebred dam Teeshan Shantoush. She sold with a two month old Wilodge Vantastic calf at foot having previously stood champion at both Ballymena and Ballymoney shows. She sold to William McAllister, Kells, Co Antrim, for his Artnagullion herd.

And at 6200gns was her dam Shantoush. This one is by Ashmara Nuts and sold with a Vantastic bull calf at foot to the same buyer. Both mother and daughter had been Limousin heifer Derby winners.

Another from Teeshan, this time November 2006-born heifer Banoush then claimed the next highest call of 6000gns. Another Shantoush daughter, this time by Ryedale Paragon, she was sold in calf to Cloughhead Umpire and was snapped up by Noel McGarrigle of the Moneykee herd, Irvinestown.

Finally from Mr Robinson was Teeshan Otty at 4400gns. This one is an eleven year old cow by Derosa Masso and sold with a Vantastic calf at foot to Sam Coleman for his CKO herd.

Topping the bull trade at 5000gns was Bapton Javelin son Slaeburn Dara from new breeder Charlie Magill, Larne. This one stood pre-sale champion and is a January 2008-born entry. He sold to Messrs Graham Bros, Ballymena.

A trio then sold at 4400gns, the first of which was the reserve intermediate champion, Craigatoke Cyclone from Martin Conway. Clyclone is a December 2007-born son of Haltcliffe Underwriter with a beef value of +37 and sold to S Monaghan, Cookstown.

Second at this level was Ballynahone Dominator which stood reserve overall male champion. He’s by Sympa and out of Ballynahone Sensation. With a beef value in the top 10% he sold to William Campbell, Camlough.

And finally at 4400gns was Linisk Danny from Linisk Farms. By Ravageur and out of Albian Victoria, this one sold to Eileen McIlwaine, Cushendall.

Averages; 34 bulls £2683.68, four cows and in calf heifers £6667.50, 21 maiden heifers £1639.50 (J A McClelland and Sons).
