Saturday’s sale of Suffolks at Ballymena on behalf of the Northern Irish Branch of the Suffolk Sheep Society saw a top price of 2200gns paid for a tup lamb from Alfred and Norman Robinson’s Benrafton flock, Downpatrick, Co Down.
Their sale topper was an embryo bred son of Strathisla Stoner out of a dam by Kinmundy Kraka bred in Robbie Wilson’s Strathisla flock, Aberdeenshire. This lamb stood second at the Balmoral Show in May and his dam’s previous sons have sold to a top of 9000gns. Buying this one was Faulkner Bryson for his Kildarton flock.
Second best call was an 1800gns sale for a Burnview Big Horse son from Keith and Gordon McAdoo. This one is out of a Northtyne England dam which goes back to Clunty Standby. And close behind at 1800gns was the best from Mark Priestley’s Limestone flock, Seaforde. This was another embryo bred Strathisla Stoner son out of a dam by Castlewellan Tonto which bred a lamb sold to George Stuart’s Birness flock last year.
