Balmaud Simmentals sell to 10,000gns

Friday’s dispersal of the Balmaud Simmental herd at Stirling for W and G Strachan hit a top of 10,000gns when stock bull Woodhall Volcano was bought in a two way split by Messrs Hamilton, Aikengall, and Hector MacAskill, Woodhall. Volcano is a two and half year old Corrick Kentucky Kid son.

Next best of 4500gns was given twice for cows and calves, with the first bid at this level paid by A G Stephen and Co, Burnside of Idoch, for an eight year old Austrian bred cow, Mausi. She sold with a Volcano calf at foot. The other at this money was homebred heifer Balmuad Tracy. She sold with an Innerwick Renown heifer calf at foot to a and I McInnes, Ruaig, Isle of Tiree.

And the next call of 4000gns was made three times, with the first sale being for a homebred cow, Balmaud Shannon. She sold with a bull calf at foot to Messrs S Mackie, Methlick. Second to make this figure was Balmaud Topaz, a homebred heifer with a Renown heifer calf at foot which sold to David and Nicky Field, Blunsdon, Wiltshire.

The final transaction at this money was for the senior stock bull Strathisal Nuggat. He sold to Messrs Allardyce, Tarland.

Topping the in-cald heifers was a 3000gns sale for Balmaud Vogue. She sold to Messrs Moffat, Dunbar.

On the same day the Annick herd of L D Quarm was reduced, achieveing a top call of ÂŁ4200gns for a maiden heifer, Annick Helen’s Vicky. She sold to Iain and Jimmy Green, Corskie. Leading the cows and calves was a 3200gns bid fro Annick Helen, a Gretna House Fantastic daughter which sold to D Bell and Son, Strathmiglo, with a bull calf at foot.

And at 3000gns was Annick Helen’s Tara, a heifer with her first calf at foot. This sold to D Craig, Stewarton.

Averages; Balmuad – 29 cows and calves ÂŁ2454.82, 29 in-calf cows and heifers and maiden heifers ÂŁ1420.03, 11 bulls ÂŁ3102.27.
