Channel Island breeds have dominated in the dairy interbreed championship, with a Jersey from Anthea and Jeff Daw, Noremead House, Winterbourne Monkton, reigning supreme.
Now in her second lactation, Jubilee Signature Ceres is a Family Hill Avery Signature daughter, out of Sopwden Junor Ceres and is yielding 31 litres a day.
Ceres is one of six Jerseys owned by the Daws and run with 220 Holsteins as part of the C B Cooper Partnership’s Noremead Herd, Winterbourne Monkton. The Daws had a strong presence in the interbreed championship ring, with daughter, Imogen Daw handling the champion Holstein.
Judge Edward Morgan said: “The Jersey was the most balanced cow here, open ribbed with a superb udder – a quality cow.”
This February calved cow also won breed champion and reserve interbreed champion at this year’s North Somerset Show.
In reserve was Guernsey cow, Bickfield Rainbow 51 owned in partnership by Colin Evan and Neil Sales, 83 Charlton Road, Radstock, but kept in Carmarthenshire.
Now in her third lactation having calved three weeks ago, she is giving 47kg a day and yielded 8,900 litres in her last lactation. Rainbow received breed champion at the Bath and West Show last year, as well as North Somerset Show breed champion and reserve supreme.
Bred by Morris Durbin, Bristol, this one is by Slindon Posie’s Ambionic and out of Bickfield Rainbow 26.
