Beef and sheep farmers invited to AHDB open meetings

AHDB Beef & Lamb are calling farmers to attend their open meetings taking place next week, with the first being held in Derby on Monday (29 January).

At the meetings, which are also taking place in Surrey, Somerset and Cumbria, the AHDB hopes to share the organisation’s plans for the year and get feedback from farmers on how they want their levy money directed.

There will be a presentation on the AHDB’s promotional activities for 2018, including initial plans for a €10m (£8.75m) campaign to boost lamb consumption, a joint venture between England, Ireland and France.

There will also be an overview from the organisation’s trade experts on the planned activities to maintain and develop enhanced export markets during the transition to a new trading environment.

AHDB Beef & Lamb strategy director Laura Ryan said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming levy payers to these open meetings, which are tailored especially for beef and lamb producers.

“Ahead of the changes which may come with Brexit, we want to make sure our work is helping prepare and improve the productivity of their businesses, no matter what may be to come.

“These events will be a great opportunity to update producers on the work that is being carried out and to listen to their valuable feedback on our current activity.”

The dates of the open meetings, which are free for AHDB Beef & Lamb levy payers, are:

  • Kegworth Hotel & Conference Centre, Derby, 29 January
  • Silvermere Golf Club, Surrey, 30 January
  • Sedgemoor Auction Centre, Somerset, 31 January
  • J36 Rural Auction Centre, Cumbria, 1 February
