Beef Expo 2013: Steer championship

Leading the way in the steer championship was Melanie and Michael Alford’s pure Limousin Harlem Shake. This one was bred by Alan Kendall, Reeth, and was purchased from Leyburn calf sale for £1,400 in February, after being placed reserve champion steer. It won first prize in its class at the Devon County Show just last week.

In reserve was T C Edwards and Sons’ Limousin cross Mr Dyson, from Corwen, Denbighshire. Tyson is bred by Bowen and Bowen, from Welshpool and was purchased by the Edwards family at Ruthin for £1,800.

It is the family’s first outing with 13-month-old male. He now goes home to rest in preparation for the Royal Welsh Show.
