The championship in the cattle here at Beef Expo today has just been decided, with the top prize going to the heifer champion from Jonathan Timm. This was Tip Top, a 512kg Limousin cross by Shire Apollo which was bought at Middleton-in-Teesdale for £2300. She was champion aty Otley Show last weekend.
Standing reserve overall was the reserve heifer champion, Poker Face from Charlotte Alford. This was bred by Christopher Dick, Falkirk, and bought at Caledonian Marts last year. She is by Attila and weighed in at 548kg today, fresh from her win at Devon County Show last year.
Taking the steer championship were G and E Jones with Cawr, a homebred Limousin cross which weighed 606kg on the day. Reserve champion steer was Super Trouper from Messrs Richardson and Hyslop. This one was bred by John Smith-Jackson and is another by Shire Apollo. He went 479kg today.
In the baby beef section it was a win for Phil and Sharon Sellers with their Limousin cross heifer Miss Moneypenny. She was bought from Wendy Morgan at last year’s Royal Welsh Winter Fair where she stood reserve baby beef champion to Poker Face.
Reserve in the babies was the reserve baby heifer, Kurra Lee from local exhibitors J Lee and Son. This Limousin cross weighed 325kg.
