Jorryn debut takes him to top spot in Holstein list

With a £PLI of 87, Skalsumer Jorryn has made his debut into the new MDC breeding+ rankings of available Holstein bulls by entering in top place.

Marketed by Cogent, the son of the French-bred sire Jocko Besne, Jorryn takes the number one spot from Mascol, who despite increasing his £PLI by two, drops into second place with a £PLI of 83.

MDC’s breeding+ director Marco Winters says Mascol is also one of the best bulls for improving somatic cell counts, with a predicted proof of -25.

The only bull to beat this in the top 30 is third-placed Picston Shottle, with an SCC score of -26.

“Having added 100kg to his production proof and with a £PLI of 82, Shottle shares third place with O-Bee Manfred Justice.

With an index of -1.2, Justice is one of the better bulls for fertility in the list,” he adds.

Delta Canvas stays in the top five available Holstein bulls, with a £PLI of 81, but has a fertility index of -7.9.

Having doubled his daughter count and increased his £PLI by 1 to 77, UK tested Netherside Dynamo is sixth in the rankings.

Sharing seventh place and a £PLI of 75 are Moet Lookout and Holim Rafael. “Lookout is the highest ranking 99% reliability bull and has added more than 500 daughters to his production proof. He also has a respectable fertility index of -1.8.”

Ninth place sees the second new entry and another Jocko Besne son, Kelstein Kilmer with a £PLI of 73. Ricecrest Boone now has a £PLI of 72 and is ranked 10th, he adds.

Also published this week are the new genetic rankings for specialist breeds.

The published information includes top £PLI lists for bulls with UK progeny tests and international proofs as well as top cows and herd lists.
