Aberdeen & Northern Marts’ primestock sale last week saw steers reach 181p/kg liveweight (£1629 gross), for a 630kg Charolais from Auchmaliddie Mains, Maud. Steers levelled at 161p/kg. a 5p/kg dip on the week. But the heifer average edged up 1p/kg to 159p/kg and young bulls sold to 161p/kg. An entry of 1246 hoggets averaged 187.7p/kg peaking at 222p/kg for 40kg Charollais lambs. Maundy Thursday’s show and sale of store cattle saw 2236 head go under the hammer with bullocks reaching £1200 (243p/kg) and heifers £1180 (286p/kg). The auctioneers reported: “All classes were an excellent trade resulting in the highest averages of the season so far”.
