Beeston mid-month dairy hits £2350 top
Last week’s mid-month dairy sale at Beeston attracted another big entry, with more than 320 head forward on the day.
Milking animals were once again the pick of the trade, but youngstock were again more difficult to sell.
Top price was £2350 for a heifer from Mark Bowden Wigland, Malpas. This was Holbeck Tennyson Mineral 5, a daughter of Burlane Tennyson which sold giving 37kg a day to David Colclough, Sandbach.
Mr Colclough also bought the next top seller, Joylan Evo Sheena at £2150, again from Mark Bowden.
A total of nine heifers sold for £2000 or more, with the next top seller being Rainborough Colleen 286. This Far-0-La Debbie Jo Decker daughter was sold by Messrs Ridge, Rotherham, and found a new home with David Colclough at £2100.
Selling at £2070 was an unregistered heifer from Neil Lewis, Farndon, which went to J G Williams, Nantwich. At £2050 was a Brown Swiss heifer from Jack and Barclay Taylor, Myddle. This one was snapped up by Brian and Mary Charlesworth. Mark Bowden then sold a homebred daughter of Moet Melody for £2020 to Peter and Audrey Howard, Winsford.
Messrs Ridge also sold two other heifers at £2000 each, first to go was another by Decker which sold to G Davies, High Ercall, Telford, while their second at this price was a New World Empire daughter which sold to Messrs Howard.
Also at £2000 was a Shottle daughter, Bannistree Pex Vera 55 from F Monk, which sold to Messrs Hill and Davies, Wrexham.
Averages; 181 cows and milking heifers £1407.62; 25 bulling heifers £656; 35 stirk heifers £257, 34 heifer calves £207, two Aberdeen-Angus stock bulls £1280 (Wright Manley).
