Beeston mid-month sale achieves complete clearance

Quality in quantity was the mark of this week’s mid-month sale at Beeston on Tuesday when Wright Manley achieved a complete clearance for all 340 head offered.

Leading the trade was a £2600 sale for another from Jack and Barclay Taylor’s staggered herd disperal for their Burnbrae herd. Their sale leader was fresh calved third calver Burnbrae Tugolo Mars a daughter of Italian sire Olmo Prelude Tugolo who was giving 42kg a day at the point of sale. Buying this one was John Minshull, Tean, Staffordshire.

Second best call of £2450 was taken by G H Griffiths and Co, Pwllheli, for the best from the their entry, Carnguwch Jordan Janett a Roylane Jordan daughter which calved in January. This one was snapped up by Messrs Stone, Staffs.

And the same vendor and buyer combination was responsible for the third highest sale of the day when Carnguwch Gibbon Janett, a fresh calved fourth lactation cow giving 55kg a day sold for £2350.

On the same day Richard and Cath Alkrigg of Silloth, Cumbria, dispersed their noted Fornside herd to a top price of £2500 twice. First to sell at this money was Bromstead Marker Mitzy Red a red and white daughter of Indianhead Red Marker due with her sixth calf. This one sold to Rob Swain of Shavington Park, Market Drayton.

The other transaction at this price was Mitzy Red’s daughter, Fornside Kite Mitzy Red 2 which is due in September to Rose Royce. She was bought by Ledgers Farm, Deal, Kent.

Averages; 172 cows and milking heifers £1529.01, 10 served heifers £1386, 34 maiden heifers 851.76, 10 heifer calves £276; Fornside dispersal, 52 cows and milking heifers £1439.61, 1 served heifer £2500, 48 maiden heifers £1007.71 (Wright Manley).
