Belted Galloway record smashed at Castle Douglas

The ring at Wallet Marts, Castle Douglas was set alive on Friday when the breed record price of 7500 gns was sealed by a winning bid from re-knowned Belted, White and Riggit Galloway breeder Tim Oliver of Great Whittington, Newcastle for Lullenden Aztec Warrior.

Bred by Miss H Hamilton’s Whitehope Herd of Innerleithen, Peebleshire, the 22 month old bull will now go to be stock sire at Tim’s Off The Wall Herd based at Great Whittington and Haltwhistle

The bull’s dam was Cow of the year and the sire, Whitepool Warlord, won as a yearling

The second highest price of the day was achieved by Mochrum Estate for the Show Champion bull Mochrum Cantana. The winning bid of 3400gns by Robert Graham of RKG Farms, Irelandton, Twynholm sees the bull being retained in Scotland

Larghill Legend consigned by Messrs W Marshall and Son of Eastlands, Dumfries made the third highest price of the day; knocked down to a 3100 guinea bid from JAT Hodge, Okehampton, Devon
