Belted Galloway tops 3,800gns at Carlisle spring show and sale

Saturday’s first prize male and reserve champion took the top price at Carlisle’s spring Belted Galloway show and sale.

Clifton Ambassador, from Mr and Mrs A F Bell, Southwick, Dumfries,  sold for 3,800gns. An exceptional young bull, sired by Royal Highland Show and Great Yorkshire Show championship winning Cairnsmore Domino, he is out of Clifton Aconite, sister to cow of the year 2012, Clifton Daffodil.

Next up in the bull sale was 1,500gns Burnfoot Frodo, from Messrs H and N Sloan, Lauder, Borders. This third prize bull is sired by Crystal Herculese and out of Ballindean Rose. He went home with NA and J Temple to Boughton in Furness, Cumbria.

Females

Securing the highest price for the females was Huntfield Kindly, from J and Z Kirk, Dumfries and Galloway. Sired by Huntfield Indigo and out of Browhaze Zipa, she sold for 2,950gns to JA Waldie and Sons, Cupar, Fife, with her heifer calf, Huntfield Rejoice, sired by Huntfield Ollie, at foot.

Mr R A Murray’s third prize senior heifer, Solway Vented, from Whitehaven, Cumbria, was next at 2,250gns. Sired by Park Apollo and out of Solway Vent, she went to A and J Thomson, Ardoe, Aberdeenshire, with her heifer calf, Solway Rethink, sired by Esk Valley Glorious 12th, at foot.

And J and Z Kirk were back with their first prize and overall champion senior heifer, Huntfield Pearl, who was knocked down at 1,800gns to C and AE Cameron, Keith, Aberdeenshire. Sired by Huntfield Red Bull and out of Huntfield Megan, she carries the red gene being by a red and white sire. Huntfield Pearl went with her April born calf, sired by Huntfield Optomist, at foot.

Averages: 4 bulls, £1,876.80; 13 cows and heifers served and/or suckling, £1,463.53; 29 heifers served or maiden, £1,123.80; 5 white Galloway females, £900.91.
