Beltex champion makes 3,200gns at Welshpool

Beltex met a solid trade selling to a top of 3,200gns in Welshpool on Wednesday 4 September at the breed society’s Welsh Club show and sale.

Sale leader at 3,200gns was the male and supreme champion, Cennen Soloman, a yearling ram by Llwynbrain Nelson from Garry and Rhiannydd Williams, Gwynfe, Llangadog. The buyer was judge, Paul Slater, Addlington, Macclesfield. The same vendors also offered the day’s top entries.

At 1,180gns Cennen Summer Sun, a Whatmore Rocky yearling son went to GHP Jones, Erwood, Builth Wells, while Cennen Stanley, a yearling by the homebred Cennen Raymond commanded a 1,000gns bid from A Davies, Manordelio, Carmarthen.

Three more Rocky yearling sons were in the money for the Williams. Cennen Simon sold for 860gns to D Hughes, Pontllyfni, Caernarfon paid 860gns for Cennen Simon and 850gns for Cennen Squire, while Cennen Scott went home with S Roberts, Llanbedir, Ruthin for 820gns.

Earlier in the day the Williams achieved success in the female ring. Their Whatmore Rocky sired yearling ewe, Cennen Sunny secured the female championship and overall reserve awards before going on to take the leading female 1,000gns bid from MT and ER Davies and Son, Five Roads, Llanelli.

Heading the yearling ram entry at 900gns for Michael Owens, Pontsian, Llanfysul was the Glantre Lumberjack sired Glantre Scotty to FS Heath, Market Drayton who also went to 850gns for Glantre Super Man, a Ludgate Pop Out son. A few minutes earlier, another Pop Out son, Glantre Supermann made 850gns to HW Williams, Llangadog, Carmarthen.

Mr Owens invested some his takings when he bid 800gns for Rattray’s Snipe, a yearling ram by Ian’s Nutter from R and S Rattray, New Cross, Aberystwyth.

Two Dooley Napal sired yearling rams from Dermot Costelloe, Bletchley, Market Drayton sold to TIM Hughes, Meiford.  Bailey Brook Shoot made  850gns while Bailey Brook Scope commanded 750gns.

L and SE Hewitt, Pennyffordd, Chester offered their highest yearling ram entry, Southern Acres Socrates, a Bishops Nijinsky son at 820gns to G Rowland, Caergybi, Anglesey. Their Buckles Newt sired Southern Acres Sitting Bull was secured for 800gns by E Davies, Dorrington, Shrewsbury.

The ewe lamb trade was led by entries from VJ and ML Roots and Son, Southam, Warwick. Top entry at 700gns was Fleckleton Tiger Lily, a Kingledores Renegrade daughter to RJ Shaw, Admaston, Rugeley who also paid 500gns for Freckleton Truthful, a Ballydown Playboy daughter. Another Renegrade sired ewe lamb, Freckleton Tilly commanded a 550gns bid from JA Hopkins, Limpsham, Somerset, while Freckleton Tasse, by the homebred Freckleton Rodney sold for 500gns to RJ Hughes, Caersws.
