Beltex sell to 650gns at Chelford

Leading the Chelford Beltex sale at 650gns was the two year old ewe Southern Acres Patty bred by L and S E Hewitt, Chester, Cheshire and forwarded as part of a large consignment from the Southern Acres flock. By Bishops Nijinsky and out of a homebred ewe, she was purchased by I Kirk, Southwell, Nottinghamshire.

The same breeder took 500gns from R J Lambert, Skipton, North Yorkshire, for the shearling ewe Southern Acres Roslynne, by Buckles Newt and out of a homebred ewe. At 450gns Messrs Hewitt went on to sell the two year old Southern Acres Peony by Nijinsky and out of a homebred ewe, to A Evans, Gorwen, Denbighshire.

A call of 420gns secured Messrs Hewitt’s Southern Acres Peggy. This one was a two year old Nijinsky daughter out of a homebred ewe and was bought by G Vaughan, Boncath, Pembrokeshire, who also made a call of 400gns for Tewitt Hall Mellissa, a four year old ewe by Mustang and out of Brickrow Katie, bred by B and F Staveley, Clapham, Lancashire.

Back with the Southern Acres entry and a bid of 400gns was made for Southern Acres Nessa, a three year old ewe by Ardstewart Massey and out of a homebred ewe, knocked down sold for 400gns to D Howatson, Abergele, Conwy. Another 400gns bid was made for Southern Acres Poppy, a two year old ewe by Nikinsky and out of a homebred ewe. The purchaser was O T Williams, Tudur, Abergele.

Nortoft Melba sold for 600gns to the judge G Cropper, Rossendale, Lancashire. This four year old Mustang-sired daughter out of a Nortoft ewe was consigned by D Costelloe, Market Drayton, Shropshire, and bred by G D Thomas. The same vendor took 400gns for the four year old ewe Nortoft Madonna, by Airyolland Kingsize and out of a Nortoft ewe. She was purchased by M A Gethin, Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, who also bid 580gns for the shearling ewe Headlind Retrace, by The Drifter and out of a homebred ewe, bred by A Jackson, Lanark, Lanarkshire.

The same buyer paid 550gns for North Valley Northern Dancer, by Rosslyn Kumar and out of Skiddaw View Jazz. She was a three year old ewe bred by J Wood, Trawden, Lancashire.

Mr Wood sold a two year old North Valley ewe for 450gns to J A Ratcliffe, Connahs Key, Clwyd. This one was by Kingledores Mercy and out of a homebred dam. The same buyer bid 400gns for the two year old ewe Southern Acres Pandora from Messrs Hewitt. She was by Bishops Nijinsky and out of a homebred ewe.

Two year old ewe Hallcrake Piccollo went for a call of 480gns to S Asquith, Otley, West Yorkshire. Bred by M and E Jennings, Kendal, Cumbria, Piccollo was by Horseclose Foreman and out of a Van’t Ophoverveld ewe.

At 420gns Rathbone Nessia, bred by M R and J E Davis, Austwick, Lancashire was purchased by M Kellett and Partners, Ashby, Northamptonshire. Nessia was a three year old ewe by Westerdale Leonardo and out of a homebred ewe. The same breeder took 420gns for the shearling ewe Rathbone Possum, by Tewitt Hall Marcus and out of a homebred ewe, from P Wright, Buxton, Derbyshire. Mr Wright invested a further 380gns in the Rathbone flock with shearling ewe Rathbone Ruby, by Dooley Nissan and out of a homebred dam. Messrs Davis’ ewe lamb, the first prize winner Rathbone Suzanna by Nissan and out of a homebred dam, sold for 420gns to S Nuttall, Blackburn, Lancashire.

Three ewes from J and E Hedley, Doncaster, South Yorkshire were knocked down sold at 420gns. First came Arconda Pip, a three year old ewe by Kingledores Messi and out of Highlander Kirsch, bred by A J Payne, Doncaster, South Yorkshire, and bought by P Brown, Castleford, West Yorkshire. Messrs Hedley took 420gns from R B and H J Eyre, Sheffield, Yorkshire for Tosh Patrilla, a two year old by Messi and out of Highlander Lucky Girl. The same buyers paid 400gns for the shearling ewe Southern Acres Rose, by Buckles Newt and out of a homebred dam, from the Southern Acres consignment. Messrs Hedley took a further 420gns for another Messi-sired daughter, the two year old ewe Tosh Patricia out of Puleston Lisa, secured by L T J Mottershead, Bridgnorth, Shropshire.

Averages: 32 ewes, £382.27; 18 shearling ewes, £360.50; 40 ewe lambs, £196.88.
