BFL lambs top £15,000 at Hawes marathon sale

Bluefaced Leicester made at top price of £15,000 at Hawes 16-hour marathon sale.

Topping the day’s trade at £15,000 was a son of Mustang out of a ewe by the £11,000 E1 Hewgill bought a couple of years ago at Hawes by the Wright family. He sold in a two-way split to Andrew Campbell, Drimsynie, and Jamie Pirie, Blarnavid.

G33 Midlock - £15,000

Second best call was a bid of £14,000 paid by Martin Allan, Appleby, for the lamb G1 Keer by R1 Lunesdale and out of a ewe bred by Neil Marston, High berries. It made the highest bid for a Keer consignment to date.

G1 Keer - £14,000

Following on from this was a bid of £11,000 for another Midlock consignment G35 Midlock by the Mustang out of E1 Hewgill ewes. Buyer was Messrs Hargreaves, Barley, Mark Nelson, Bull and Cave and David Harker, Overthwaite.

G35 Midlock - £11,000

Another went to Martyn Archer, Carry House and J Hunter, Bellingham for £10,000.

In all the 12 lambs from Midlock averaged £6,683 for 12 lambs.

At £10,000 was G2 Hewgill by the homebred E47 Hewgill and out of a ewe by the R1 Lunesdale, from the Hewgill flock. Buyers were buyers Andrew Nicholson, Swinside and J Ireland, Stockhow.

Making £9,000 was Ron and Fran Wilson with a lamb by the £10,200 F1 Oak House. Buyer was Phillip Dawson, Kentmere Hall.
