Border and Lakeland club Holstein sale tops at 3,400gns
Freshly calved cows and heifers were in strong demand at the Border and Lakeland Holstein Club sale at Carlisle.
Leading trade with a bid of 3,400gns was the stylish red and white, in-milk heifer Ceeingred Kite Scarlet Red bred and shown by Gary McCormick, Dumfries. Born in August 2011 she is sired by Markwell Kite and out of Ex90 classified Ceeingred Rampage Scarlet Red dam by Rosedale-L Rampage-Red. She was purchased by WR Dixon, Wigton, Cumbria, having calved just one month ago.
Next best at £2,900 was pre-sale sale champion Boclair Shottle Elegance 7, from J Brewster, Bearsden, Glasgow. This November 2011 born heifer is sired by Picston Shottle. Her dam is the Sandy-Valley Bolton daughter Boclair Bolton Elegance 2 (VG87), who gave 13,870kg at 3.53% butterfat and 3.02% protein in the second lactation. She was purchased by TS Thompson, Cowdenbeath, Fife, giving 33kg daily.
WR and JE Dixon, Wigton, Cumbria, secured Messrs Cannon’s August 2011 born heifer Espland Talent Alison, from their herd in Appleby, Cumbria, for 2,550gns.
Sired by Ladino Park Talent she is out of the Bolton sired dam Espland Bolton Alison 2, classified VG85, who gave 11,206kg at 4.12% butterfat and 3.32% protein in her third lactation.
At the same money was Brian Yates’ Logan Ultimate Roxie, from Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbrightshire. Sired by Logan Ultimate she is out of the Drake daughter Logan Drake Roxie, classified VG86. She headed home with A Waddell and sons, Shotts, Lanarkshire.
Leading trade for cows at 2,400gns was the fresh second calver Roansbank Jordan Celia, from JW Graves and Son, Cockermouth, Cumbria. This Gilette Jordan daughter is out of a Shottle sired dam. She was purchased by was purchased by WR and JE Dixon.
