Brisk sheep trade at Cutcombe market
Exmoor Farmers Livestock Auctioneers received a good entry of sheep to Cutcombe market last week with 592 sheep going under the hammer. An entry of 69 couples sold to a brisk following with a good number of buyers present for the offering. Top of the day was ÂŁ141 for a single couple (ÂŁ70.50/life). Others from Miss P Marke reached ÂŁ138 for double couples. Overall average stood at ÂŁ112 an outfit.
The first pens of new season’s lambs were sold at Cutcombe with ten from Mr V Ellicott reaching ÂŁ78.50 for 38.5kg lambs.
Hogget trade still holds at an average of 176p/kg and peaked at 185 for a pen from Mr A Speed, Briddicott.
Cull ewes and rams met strong demand with the overall average at ÂŁ76 and the peak for a pen from Miss V Snowden, Ornott Farm making ÂŁ103.50. Other strong prices included ewes from Howetown Farms making ÂŁ93.50 and a big pen from RP Elston & Son which sold for ÂŁ93 with numerous others over ÂŁ90. A wide range of rams met with similar demand as they averaged ÂŁ83.50 and peaked at ÂŁ108.80 for a ram from Messrs R & O Richards & Son.
