Bristol Limousins sell to 5100gns top

A good steady trade and a female clearance of 100% saw Limousin breeders go home happy from the summer sensational show and sale at Bristol Sales Centre.

Leading trade at 5100gns was the second lot in the catalogue, a June 2008-born bull Miscombe Drover from Buriton Estates, Hampshire. By Oxygene, this one is out of the Ronick Lion daughter Miscombe Thrush. With a beef value of +39 and a muscle depth score of +3.4, he sold to Geoff Hollow, St Ives.

A jump down the leading prices saw the second highest priced bull go at 3300gns. Killerton Eric, a February 2010-born bull from Columbjohn Farm, Exeter, is out of Killerton Upericum. With a beef value of +35 and muscle depth score of +4.3, he was knocked down to P A and I A Robertson, Wooton-Under-Edge.

At 3000gns, the Quick family, Devon, sold Loosebeare Eagle, a son of Tomschoice Usurper. Born January 2009 he is out of the Greenwell Major daughter Loosebeare Sodiana and sold with a beef value of +28 to Des Beatty, Wiltshire.

Just shy of that price tag at 2900gns was Corridan Dreadnought from John Evans, Powys. This October 2008-born bull is by Sympa son Corridan Arkle and is out of a Haltcliffe Hercules-sired daughter. He sold to M and S Brinknell, Herefordshire.

The best from David and Anne Wheeler, Devon, was Rosecroft Earl, a February 2009-born son of Sympa out of a Cloughhead Rocket daughter Ringway Biddy. With a beef vale of +30, he found a new owner with R F Rawle, Barnstaple.

Female trade topped at 2550gns with the best from Jack Neale’s draft offering. The March 2006-born cow Nealford Bluebell sold to previous bull buyer Des Beatty with her heifer calf at foot by Cloughhead Anchor.

Just shy of that at 2450gns was Nealford Alexandra, an April 2005-born cow by Dyfri Regent out of a Scorboro Mallard daughter. Sold suckling her Ironstone Duncan-sired bull calf, she was knocked down to J and J Carroll, Somerset.

Topping trade for the non-draft offering was David and Anne Wheeler with their June 2007-born calved heifer Rosecroft Carla, by Grahams Unbeatable. With a beef value of +39, she sold with her Wilodge Vantastic-sired heifer calf at foot to H Curtis and Sons, Bristol.

Averages: eight bulls £3005.63; four cows £1863.75; 23 maiden heifers £1101.13; two calves £1128.75. Nealford: five cows £1963.50; nine served heifers £1575 (Harrison and Hetherington).
