British Blue heifer leaves best margin in Hexham YFC competition

A British Blue cross heifer enabled Callum Storrow, Willimoteswick, Bardon Mill, to take the award for the best margin in the Hexham and Northern Marts YFC overwintering competition.

The heifer, bred by Brian Trafford, Beacon Rigg, was bought for £470 in October and sold in last week’s sale for £840, leaving a margin of £370. Taking this one home was Frank Robson, Ryal. It was the second time in three years that Mr Storrow had claimed the best margin.Second best margin was achieved by Kate Ogle, Wydon Farm, with a Limousin cross steer bought from Norman Forsyth, Isle of Whithorn, for £490. He also sold at £840, leaving a £350 margin. It was bought by David Hammond, Northallerton.

In the pre-sale show the championship went to a Limousin cross steer from Richard Dent. This one was bred by Messrs Oilver, Cawfields and sold for £940, having been bought in October for £725. He sold to Frank Robson.Reserve champion was the second prize steer from the same class from James Mitchell. This bullock, bred by Eric Armstrong, Harlow Bower, sold for £905, leaving a margin of £155. He sold to Elaine Sedgewick, Long Myers.

Taking the best spot in the heifers was a British Blue cross from Martin Barker. This one was bred by Brian Tailford, Beacon Rigg, and sold for £815.
