British Blue steer draws high priase at Exeter

Despite clashing with the recent Royal Smithfield Christmas Fair, Exeter and District Christmas Show drew in the crowds and a strong offering of cattle and sheep.

Leading the way in the cattle classes was first time exhibitors Mr and Mrs Cope of Wiveliscombe, Somerset, whose homebred British Blue cross steer took the championship and was later bought by judge J Coleman, Colchester for 265p/kg, grossing £1597.40.

The reserve champion came from Messrs E W Quick and Partners of Crediton and was also purchased by the judge for 240p/kg.

A high quality and larger than usual entry of 85 sheep sold to a keen demand and judge Mr Loader, Yeovil awarded his championship to Messrs Darke and Lapthorne with a pair of 45kg Texel lambs which sold for the market record of £200 a head to Mr Parr of Matford Meats.
