Suffolk devotees had plenty of top quality females to choose from when the Cairness, Stockton, Strathisla and Whitestone flocks held a joint sale at Borderway Mart, Carlisle where prices reached 8000gns for a Cairness shearling gimmer consigned by Jimmy Douglas.
By Cairness Cyclone and out of a dam by Muiresk King of Diamonds, the gimmer was in-lamb to Cairness Diamond Jubilee and heads for Northern Ireland with buyer Gary Beacom.
A 2010-bred ewe from Cairness goes back to Aberdeenshire with G Troup who gave 4000gns for this daughter of Cairness Achievement and out of a Whitestone Warrior dam. She was in-lamb to Rhaeadr Roger Ramjet.
Best for Robbie Wilson’s Strathisla offering was a 4500gns call from Mark Priestley, Downpatrick, Northern Ireland to secure a gimmer by Strathisla Sea Bird and out of a Strathisla Schumacher ewe. She was in-lamb to Rookery Rooney.
Highest call for W Troup‘s Whitestone females was 3800gns paid by Jimmy Douglas for a Cairness Liam sired gimmer that was in-lamb to Cairness Diamond Jubilee. Mr Douglas also paid 4000gns for the highest priced entry from John Sinnett’s Stockton females. It was a ewe lamb by Conchar PR.
Averages: Cairness – 13 ewes £1190 and 32 gimmers £1038. Strathisla – seven ewes £769 and 21 gimmers £1524. Stockton – 12 ewe lambs £818. Whitestone – nine gimmers £940.
