Cairness lamb tops Suffolk sale at 17,000gns

 

A top price of 17,000gns was paid for the champion ram lamb from Jimmy Douglas’ Cairness flock at the Suffolk Sheep Society’s National Show and Sale at Shrewsbury.

 

The ET-bred lamb is by Muiresk Messi and out of one of the flock’s top ewes by the 68,000gns Muiresk King of Diamonds. It was secured by A and N Robinson, Downpatrick.

 

Best from the Strathisla pen of Robbie Wilson was a ram lamb by Forkins Figo and out of a Strathisla Schumacher sired ewe. The lamb realised 8500gns to Cumbria bidders G and J Soulsby, Penrith.

 

Another lamb from the Cairness pen, and also by Muiresk Messsi, made 7000gns to J Fleming, Carluke. This twin-born lamb was out of a ewe by Cairness Achievement.

 

Co Fermanagh breeder Gary Beacom saw a lamb from his Lakeview flock reach 5500gns to G K Elsworthy, Bideford, Devon. By Cairness Cyclone and out of a Strathisla Shadrach sired ewe, the lamb was champion at Armagh Show this year.

 

Chris Holmes’ Rookery flock sold to 5000gns when a son of Haddo High Voltage was claimed by D J Harvey, Builth Wells.

 

Averages: 133 ram lambs £1368 and two shearlings £1365.
