Charollais takes Royal Norfolk sheep championship

Taking the sheep interbreed here at Royal Norfolk yesterday was a Charollais shearling ewe from Geoff Watson and Carol Grain. This one is Sullwood Kinky Kitten,  a daughter of homebred sire Sullwood Hawk, a Rutland Ensign grandson.This one is out of a homebred dam and was first in her class at Lincoln. She now heads on the Great Yorkshire. Interbreed judge Malcolm Stewart, Kelso, said she was an exceptionally correct ewe, well fleshed and right in her legs.

Standing reserve overall was the Suffolk champion, a ewe lamb from Liz Needham. She’s a daughter of Strathisla Sea Eagle and out of a dam by Muiresk Merganser, Miss Needham’s former show ewe. She was reserve champion at Rutland and champion at Lincoln.

In the pairs competition the winning duo were the Hampshire Down pairing from David and Denise Middleditch, with the Southdown duo from Messrs Wakeham-Dawson and Harmer reserve. Mr Stewart said the Hampshire pair were the perfect example of a modern native terminal sire breed, with great fleshing and sound movement.
