Chelford Beltex rams peak at 1,350gns

Beltex rams met a solid trade at the breed society’s annual show and sale at Chelford last week, selling to 1,350gns.

Sale leader was Woodies Sundance, a ram lamb by the 8,000gns Kingledores Rascal and out of a Lugate bred show ewe. Bred by Stuart Wood, Westhill, Aberdeen, he was knocked down sold to K N Heath, Sutton, Macclesfield.

The same breeder went to 1,050gns for Kingledores Spitfire, a ram lamb by the homebred Kingledores Rameses and out of an Inveresk bred ewe from Stuart’s cousin, Richard Wood, Tweedsmuir who also offered Kingledores Rasputan. This is a shearling ram lamb by the homebred Kingledores Mcgregor and our of a Fearn bred ewe. Earlier in the day Rasputan had secured the supreme championship and the judge, Joanne Hall, Dalston, backed her judgement by securing him for 900gns.

Stuart Wood continued his success by taking the day’s second lead at 1,250gns with another ram lamb, this time Woodies Spunky, by the 4,500gns Kingledores Rob Roy and out of a Headlind ewe. The buyer was C R Parry, Beaumaris, Gwynedd.

The shearling ram section was led at 1,150gns by an entry from L and SE Hewitt, Penyffordd to Messrs Lea and Son, Hood Green Barnsley. Southern Acres Ringmaster was by the 3,000gns Buckles Newt and out of a homebred dam going back to Beachy lines.

Next at 980gns was a shearling ram from Andrew Bishop, Eldersfield, Gloucester. Sired by Glantre Mascot and out of a homebred dam, the buyer was S Jones, Glanrafon, Corwen.

The day’s second 900gns bid went to the leading female, a gimmer by Clary Landrover and out of a Clettwr bred ewe from W Evans, Llanarth to WP Evans, Bodorgan, Anglesey.

Tom Palmer, Glenarm, Ballymena made a worthwhile return trip across the water. His shearling ewe, Burnside Rachel, a Hollylane Kosmos daughter and out of a Burnside ewe took the reserve title and went on to make 600gns to JG Roberts, Dinbych, Conwy.
