Christmas Star Texel peaks at 14,000gns
James Innes and Sons, Aberdeenshire, led the Christmas Stars Texel sale at Borderway Mart, Carlisle, on the weekend, with a 14,000gns call for an in-lamb gimmer from their Strathbogie flock.
Sale leader was IJS1300278, a Scholars Twenty Twelve daughter out of a Glenside Razzle Dazzle dam. She sold in lamb to Mullan Vivaldi and was the pick of G Morrison, Cornhill, Banff.
Second best call of 9,000gns was paid to KA and R Campbell’s Lochgoilhead-based Cowal flock for their Cairnam Talisman sired gimmer. This one is out of Kelso Pavarotti and sold carrying twins to Knap Vicious Sid. She joined Boden and Davies’ Sportsman flock, Mellor, Stockport.
Recouping some money, the Sportsman flock made 6,500gns with their in-lamb gimmer BGS1300870. Sired by Tullyagan Tonka she is out of a dam by Milnbank Special One. She sold in-lamb to Knap Vicious Sid to E Pugh, Bala, Gwynedd.
Next best at 6,000gns was a gimmer from the Robert Wilson’s Milnbank pen, Aberdeenshire. Sired by Teiglum Tornado she is out of a dam by Glenside Razzle Dazzle and sold in lamb to Glenside Valhalla. She headed back to Aberdeenshire with CG Paterson.
At the same money was the Cambwell Socrates daughter Cowal CKC1303056. She is out of a dam by Muiresk Northern Dancer and sold in lamb to Knap Vicious to R Wilson, Appleby-in-Westmorland, Cumbria.
Another from Strathbogie traded at 5000gns. The daughter of Strathbogie Terminator out of a dam by Annan Limmy, sold in-lamb to the 52,000gns Mullan Vivaldi. She heads to Northumberland with R I Henderson, Broomley.
Then at 4800gns was a Sportmans gimmer from Messrs Boden and Davies, with this being BGS1300782, a Milnbank Times Square daughter out of a dam by Hen Gapel Royal Gold. She sold carrying to Procters Ventura and was knocked down to H Ashley, Boston, Lincolnshire.
Twilight Texels
Meanwhile on the same day, the Twilight sale saw a top call of 4,400gns when the Procters flock sold a daughter of Scholars Twenty Twelve to William McCaffrey, Malpas, Cheshire.
This was PFD1302744 and is out of a dam by the 50,000gns Haddo Ringleader, which was reserve female champion at the Great Yorkshire Show this summer. She sold in-lamb to the 11,000gns Tophill Union Jack, Lanark champion 2013.
Isle of Skye-based buyer Donald Rankin then paid 4,000gns for the lead gimmer from the Knox family’s Haddo pen. This was KWJ1300574, a Knock Trojan daughter out of a dam by Anglezarke Nimrod and in-lamb to Garngour Vintage, a 13,000gns purchase.
And the Quick family were next in the money when selling QEL1302233, a Milnbank Special One daughter out of a dam by Cennem Magnum, for 3,000gns. Carrying twins to Hull house Special Brew, she was bought by Ross Lawrence, Winkleigh, Devon, with a half share retained by the Quicks.
Next best at 1,400gns was one from the Thacka flock of Giles Pyman. This was PXT1300835, a Cambwell Stewart daughter out of a dam by Humeston Officer and in-lamb to Haddo Vanguard. This one was the choice of A and V Walker, Hexham, Northumberland.
A pair from the Quicks Loosebeare draft then made 1,300gns. The first one of these was QEL1302246, a Meon Down Spartacus daughter out of a dam by Kingsland Lion and in-lamb to Milnbank Vorderman. She sold to The Illingworth family, Lockerbie, Dumfriesshire.
The other from Loosebeare at this price was QEL1302365, a Lavenham Ronald daughter out of a dam by Haltcliffe Luke. Carrying to the homebred Loosebeare Show Stopper she was bought by Robin Orr, Halbeath, Dunfermline.
Also selling for 1300gns was a Duncryne gimmer from Kerr Jarvie. This was JRV1300831, a Baltier Thunderbird daughter out of a dam by Knock Papoose. She is in-lamb to Milnbank Van Wilder and was bought by Stephanie McCollam, Crumlin, Co Antrim.
