Colchester sees lamb prices 14p/kg above national average

Colchester livestock market saw a lower entry of 304 sheep, but despite this prices still achieved 14p/kg above the national average.

GJ Goff consigned all 224 of the new season lambs forward. Beltex topped price a kilo at 194p/kg (£75 a head). Suffolk cross lambs achieved the best price a head at £83 (184p/kg). Other top prices a kilo are 185p/kg for Texel crosses and 182p/kg for Lleyns. Sale averages for the new season lambs were 182.97p/kg for 32.1-39kg lambs, 176.38p/kg for 39.1-45kg lambs and 165.72p/kg for 45.6kg and over lambs.

Of the 51 ewes sold, top price a head was £66 a head for Suffolk crosses. Two Suffolk lean rams sold to a top of £45 a head, while of the 27 store lambs forward, Texel cross ram lambs met the top bid of £66 a head.
