Cow and calf top Gisburn mart at £1,780 this week

Gisburn Auction Marts fortnightly sale of breeding and store cattle, sheep and pigs on Saturday 10 August saw almost 2000 animals pass through the sale rings.

Topping the sale was JW Miller, Water, Rossendale with a Limousin cow with bull calf at foot which sold for £1780 to K Sunderland, Bacup, Lancs.  Others in the money in the breeding cattle section included Nick Blockeel, Altham, Accrington at £1290 with his in calf Limousin cow which sold for £1290.

John Nelson, Glusburn, Keighley, West Yorks., achieved top price in the feeding bull section with a Charolais cross bull which sold to £1135 to JB Eastwood & Son, Emley, Huddersfield, West Yorks.

Peter Howarth, Burnley, Lancs., had a very successful day when his Pietrain sow with eleven piglets sold for £390.  A pair of Pietrain breeding gilts from Richard Haworth, Haslingden, Lancs., sold for £162 each.

A smart pair of Texel gimmer lambs sold for £180 each from Keith Parker, Scorton, Preston, whilst his next pen of lambs under the hammer sold for £170 each.   A batch of Mule shearlings topped at £140.  Store lambs peaked at £70 from J Smith, Haslingden, Lancs.
