Crowds are gathering for Smiddiehill Sale

Well the sun is shining on a day that promises to be a rather interesting day in terms of Holstein and Jersey trade.

On the day of the herd’s 50th birthday from when the late Ian and Willie Montgomery originally set up the Smiddiehill herd, now under the ownership of Michael and Oliver Eaton, Shropshire, crowds are busy studying the catalogue and pacing the lines of beautifully prepared cattle.

One thing hot on the lips of many this morning, is Smiddiehill Dundee Paradise, daughter of the cloned cow Vandyk-K Integ Paradise is not forward, along with her two brothers. The decision was taken by the Eaton’s to withdraw her in light of innacurate scare mongering and reporting from the national press, particularly the Daily Mail. Having grabbed five minutes with auctioneer Tom Brooksbank the lots likely to cause an excitement this morning are Smiddiehill Durham Ashlyn and the two sisters Smiddiehill Toystory Ambrosia.

My pick of the day is the giant Denmire Gibson Marie and of course her two Shottle calves along with Smiddiehill Dundee Promis and Smiddiehill Goldwyn Pledge.
